Charged after you cancelled?

Quick answer: Ask the company for a refund in writing, with your proof that you cancelled. If they refuse or ignore you, ask your bank or card company to dispute the charge. Card networks usually give you about 120 days from the charge, so act fast.

Step by step

  1. Find your proof: the cancellation email, a confirmation number, a chat transcript or a mail receipt.
  2. Write to the company and ask for the refund. Use the letter below, and attach your proof.
  3. Give them a few days to answer. Keep every reply.
  4. If they refuse or don't answer, contact your bank or card company and say you want to dispute a charge for a subscription you cancelled. Send them your proof.
  5. Paid through Apple or Google? Ask for the refund in their store instead: Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, Google in your Play Store order history.
